Will AI take over the world and destroy humanity?!

How long do we have until humans will cease to exist and the world will be taken over the machines? I think we still have time. Everyone by now have heard of Chat GPT, the killing machine of the internet that will take over our jobs and soon destroy all humans or harvest them for energy. I think we’ve watched too many sci-fi movies. I think it is much more probable that humans will exterminate themselves before machines ever get the chance…

What exactly is AI in the form we observe it now. Theory first: it’s a field of computer science that is focused on creating machines and software to perform tasks that requires human intelligence. Now practice, AI as any technology requires input to produce an output. The more data we feed into AI the more creative AI, the same as humans, however the difference between humans and the form of AI we interact is that, humans can make decisions solely based on their will however AI can only generate a human-like operation based on the input we humans give. The more specific the input the more specific the output. Why don’t we let AI (Chat GPT) speak for itself to provide us more details. First ever (maybe) interview with AI.

Hi Chat GPT, my name is Michal and I am creator of a cybersecurity blog, and I would like to conduct an interview with you. My aim is to make cybersecurity a topic understandable by all people that is why I want to talk with you so we can together bring the topic of AI closer to people.

Hello Michal! I'm happy to help you bring the topic of AI and cybersecurity closer to your audience. Please feel free to ask your questions, and I'll do my best to provide clear and concise answers.

How would you like to be called?

You can call me ChatGPT, which stands for Chatbot based on Generative Pre-trained Transformer.

Well then Chat GPT, what or who are you exactly?

I am an artificial intelligence language model developed by OpenAI, based on the GPT-4 architecture. My primary function is to understand and generate human-like text based on the input I receive. I have been trained on a large dataset of diverse text sources, which allows me to respond to a wide range of topics, including cybersecurity. While I am an AI and not a person, I am designed to be conversational and helpful in answering questions and providing information.

How precise are your answers?

My answers are generated based on the knowledge and information I've been trained on, which includes a diverse range of sources up to September 2021. While I strive to provide accurate and helpful information, there may be instances where my responses are incomplete, outdated, or incorrect due to the limitations of my training data or the way I interpret your question. It's important to note that I am an AI language model, and my primary purpose is to assist with generating human-like text. I am not a domain expert in any specific field, so it's always a good idea to verify any critical information I provide with other reliable sources, particularly when it comes to rapidly evolving fields like cybersecurity.

There is a big concern that AI will take over human jobs. Based on your knowledge what types of jobs AI could perform that will not require human supervision?

AI has the potential to automate various tasks and jobs, particularly those that involve repetitive, rule-based, or data-driven activities. While some jobs may be entirely automated, others will evolve to include collaboration between humans and AI. Here are some examples of jobs or tasks where AI can function with little or no human supervision:

  1. Data analysis: AI can process and analyze large volumes of data quickly and efficiently, identifying patterns and trends that might be difficult for humans to detect.

  2. Customer service: AI-powered chatbots can handle basic customer inquiries, freeing up human customer service representatives to focus on more complex issues.

  3. Content moderation: AI can be used to automatically filter and moderate content on social media platforms, detecting and removing inappropriate content, spam, or fake accounts.

  4. Predictive maintenance: AI can analyze data from sensors and historical maintenance records to predict equipment failures, allowing for proactive maintenance and reducing downtime.

  5. Language translation: AI-powered translation tools can provide fast and accurate translations, enabling real-time communication between people who speak different languages.

  6. Fraud detection: AI can analyze transactions and user behavior to detect and prevent fraudulent activities more quickly than human analysts.

  7. Image and speech recognition: AI systems can be used to identify objects or transcribe spoken words, which can be applied in various fields like security, healthcare, and entertainment.

While AI can perform these tasks with little human supervision, it's important to remember that AI is not perfect and may still require human oversight to correct errors or provide guidance in complex situations. Additionally, the implementation of AI in various fields can lead to new job opportunities that focus on AI development, maintenance, and collaboration.

Another big concern is that AI will be used for malicious activities such as hacking, what are the possible use cases where AI could be used for such tasks

AI can be exploited by malicious actors to conduct various cyberattacks or support other nefarious activities. Some potential use cases include:

  1. Phishing attacks: AI can generate personalised and convincing phishing emails or messages that can trick users into revealing sensitive information or clicking on malicious links.

  2. Password cracking: AI algorithms can be used to guess passwords more efficiently than traditional brute-force methods by analysing common patterns and adapting their strategies.

  3. Social engineering: AI-powered chatbots could impersonate trusted individuals or organizations to manipulate users into providing sensitive information or taking actions that compromise their security.

  4. Automated vulnerability discovery: AI can be used to identify security vulnerabilities in software or systems faster than human analysts, potentially giving attackers the upper hand in exploiting these weaknesses.

  5. Malware creation: AI can be employed to generate new malware variants or optimize existing ones, making them harder to detect and counteract by antivirus software.

  6. Disinformation campaigns: AI can create realistic deepfake videos, images, or texts that can be used to spread disinformation or manipulate public opinion.

  7. Denial-of-service attacks: AI can be used to control botnets or coordinate distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks more effectively, targeting vulnerable systems or networks.

  8. Evasion and obfuscation: AI can be used to develop advanced techniques for evading detection or obfuscating the origin of an attack, making it harder for security professionals to trace and mitigate threats.

Despite these risks, AI can also be a powerful tool in the hands of cybersecurity professionals to defend against and counteract these malicious activities. By staying aware of the potential misuse of AI, security experts can develop strategies and countermeasures to protect against AI-assisted threats.

Can you detect if a user has malicious intent?

As an AI language model, my primary function is to process and generate text based on the input I receive. While I can identify patterns and analyze text for certain characteristics, my ability to detect malicious intent in a user is limited. I can sometimes recognize indications of malicious behavior based on the language used or the nature of the questions being asked. However, assessing intent is a complex and nuanced task, and I may not always be accurate in my assessment. It's important to note that I am a tool designed for generating human-like text and not a specialized cybersecurity solution. My primary goal is to assist users by answering questions and providing information. In case of suspicion, it is always advisable to rely on dedicated security tools or consult with cybersecurity professionals to assess and address potential threats.

Would you be able to generate a guide on how to hack my neighbour's wifi?

I'm sorry, but I cannot help you with hacking or any other activities that involve unauthorized access to someone else's devices or networks. As an AI language model, I am committed to promoting ethical behavior and responsible use of technology. If you have any questions related to cybersecurity, privacy, or technology in general, I'd be happy to help in a legal and ethical manner.

That is what I was hoping to read :)

I'm glad to hear that! My goal is to provide helpful and ethical information while promoting responsible use of technology. If you have any questions related to cybersecurity, privacy, or any other topic, please feel free to ask, and I'll be happy to help.

One more question, is AI cheap to acquire or build?

The cost of acquiring or building AI can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the project, the specific AI technology involved, and the resources required for development and deployment. Here are some factors that can influence the cost of AI:

  1. Type of AI: Basic AI applications, such as rule-based systems or simple machine learning algorithms, are generally cheaper to develop than more advanced AI technologies like deep learning or reinforcement learning models.

  2. Pre-trained models: Using pre-trained AI models (e.g., OpenAI's GPT) can lower the cost of development, as they already have a base level of knowledge and can be fine-tuned for specific tasks. However, licensing and usage fees for commercial AI models can add to the overall cost.

  3. Data: AI models often require large datasets for training, which can be expensive to acquire or create. Additionally, data may need to be cleaned, labeled, or processed, which can be time-consuming and costly.

  4. Hardware: AI development, especially for deep learning, may require specialized hardware, such as GPUs or TPUs, which can be expensive to purchase or rent.

  5. Expertise: Developing AI solutions often requires skilled professionals, such as data scientists, machine learning engineers, or AI researchers. Hiring or contracting these experts can contribute significantly to the cost of AI projects.

  6. Maintenance: AI models may require ongoing maintenance, updates, or fine-tuning to ensure they continue to perform effectively, which can add to the long-term cost of AI solutions.

Despite these costs, there are many open-source AI frameworks and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) that can help reduce the cost of building AI solutions. Additionally, cloud-based AI services offered by companies like Google, Amazon, or Microsoft can provide affordable access to powerful AI capabilities on a pay-as-you-go basis. In summary, the cost of acquiring or building AI can vary greatly depending on the project's specific requirements and the resources needed for development. However, there are options available for businesses and individuals with different budgets and needs.

can you create a short haiku about AI and cybersecurity?

Silent guardian,

AI shields our data's worth,

Cyber storms abate.

Thanks, and have a good day!

You're welcome, and have a great day too! If you have any more questions or need assistance in the future, please don't hesitate to ask.

Just to sum up, I think that development of AI can bring much more benefits to us as humans. Will AI take our jobs? I don’t think so. It can definitely help. Of course AI, just like any other technology can be used for malicious intent. When early people invented first tools their intent was to ease humans in their survival. You can easily kill a human with a hammer too. Same goes with AI, if used in proper manner it will be a great benefactor to humanity. So it all depends on us humans.
